So Yesterday
I’ve decided to classify this book as a classic… because I don’t currently have anywhere else to put it. So Yesterday is probably going to sound terrible, this being the the reason why it took so long for me to post a review.
I beg you, do not be deceived! Scott Westerfeld is brilliant, probably one of the only authors I’ve read so in touch with his audience. John Green being another. Scott writes for teens and it shows. Despite this book being about… uh… fashion hunters, (or maybe because of it?) So Yesterday is borderline an action book. Writing a book about fashion hunters that is not a joke cannot be easy. Writing a good book about fashion hunters is just a feat of genius.
The book follows the life of Hunter, a boy who has a talent for the nature of cool. He identifies the latest trends before they happen and makes a profit out of it. He is a trend setter. Hunter meets Jen, an innovator… and adventure, mystery, chaos, etc. ensue.
I warned you it would sound terrible. The best I can do to make up for this problem is provide this:

Maybe if you read the first chapter you’ll see what I mean.
The writing is probably the best I’ve ever seen of Scott’s. The story is littered with bizarre facts and references in the style of Peeps, if you were a fan of that book. Brand names are avoided in the text, alluded to, creating a game of trying to guess them as the book progresses. It’s a strange mix of fiction and non fiction.
Cool never seemed so cool…
